Spin Turlock Joe Hall used to tour the Southern Ontario folk festival back in the 70's and 80's. It wasn't that Joe was particularly "folkie", but he was too subtle for the rock bars, and too unhinged for the more sedate circuits.
Which leaves us with this collection, an aerial snapshot of Joe's sui generis output. It's funny, acerbic, reflective, thoughtful, and outright wonky...sometimes all in the same song.
A word about the Quarrington brothers who formed a good chunk of the Drift: they are the perfect foil for Hall. They write pretty good, too. Books and stuff.
I'd buy all of their stuff if I were you. Favorite track: Sitting in the Belltower.

He’s been compared to everyone from Frank Zappa to Tom Waits, but Joe Hall is a true original, whose sharp wit, insightful social commentary, and wildly entertaining stage presence made him one of Canada’s legendary folk rockers. A fixture of the 70s Queen St scene in Toronto with his band The Continental Drift, Joe has called Peterborough home for 25 years and continues to play, record and tour. ... more
